On January 11, 2025, I had the privilege of experiencing the most beautiful and magical ceremony in my honour.
Five women gathered around a circle to bless me with love and support.
Together we honoured this sacred time of our motherhood journey.
Birth is a rite of passage.
A transition from maiden to mother. It is a transformational life event. One that needs all the attention that it deserves.
Let us pause on our journeys and appreciate this moment for what it is.
Every birth will transform you inside and out. Every birth is an opportunity for rebirth.
You don’t become a mother just once, with your first child. With every soul you bring earth-side, a new version of yourself is born. It is a journey of self discovery. And a journey of uncovering. All the unhealed parts of you. All the cracks within your soul, where the light enters. This magic, mystical, spiritual journey is a wonderful opportunity for growth.
My motherhood journey started in 2021 with the birth of my first child.
Back then, I experienced a baby shower that was organized for me by my friends. It was a fun event with friends & family. We played games, I received way too many gifts for the baby and for me, we shared a feast of food & drinks brought by each one,…
The birth of my second child in 2023 was a continuation of what I had already learned + tapping more into all that knowledge and wisdom.
With my first 2 births, I was very focused on birth preparation:
- I read lots of books
- I went through an online program
- I did my own research into all birth interventions, their risks & benefits, the alternatives,…
- I learned about what it looks like to birth within the system and how to navigate a birth team
- I learned about the natural physiology of birth and how birth happens naturally when it is undisturbed
- I took care of my nutrition (good food, teas, supplements, herbal remedies,…)
- I did a lot of yoga, walking, hiking, swimming
- I used affirmations and hypnobirthing meditations
- I supported my body & mind through BodyTalk, EFT, Acupuncture, Chiro, Massage, Craniosacral,…
The spiritual dimension of birth and the motherhood journey.
I have done a lot of birth prep for my 2 previous births and up until now in my motherhood journey.
So for the birth of my 3rd child, this year, 2025, I have been focusing on a deeper dimension of the motherhood journey and the birth process.
This is by far the most impactful and transformative preparation that I have ever done and probably will ever do.
I felt pretty confident in my being on the physical, mental and emotional levels. I had already done the work that I needed to do so far and I’ve already had 2 beautiful positive birth experiences to guide me through this one. Yet, something felt missing. The spiritual dimension. And it is probably the most profound of all. So my purpose for this new experience was to tap into the spiritual dimension of birth and the motherhood journey. It led me to dig into deeper layers of my being through a few practices and with the support of amazing local practitioners.
- Quantum healing with BodyTalk – Pam Dhillon
- Inner child healing with Somatics – Kayla Brazier
- Body/Mind connection with Craniosacral – Jen de Bourcier
- Physical relaxation with prenatal massage – Sarah Leslie
- To name a few…
And just using my own tools that I have acquired over the last few years. Remembering what I already have in my toolbox and using it when needed.
- Affirmations (I make my own now)
- BodyTalk Access
- Essential oils
- Journaling / writing
- Listening to inspirational, high vibrational music
- Dancing and moving my body freely, following the flow of the feminine energy
- Singing heart felt, meaningful songs to bring vibrational tone to the vagus nerve
- My own innate wisdom and intuition
This birth feels different.
From the beginning of my pregnancy until now.
Is it because I am carrying a boy this time, compared to girls previously? For sure. Is it because I am a busier Mama of 2 toddlers now? Absolutely! But beyond the physical aspects of my reality, there is a spiritual dimension that has been transforming me inside.
I am being fully present for it and I am open to all its potential of surrendering to the great Divine Design.
My Mother’s Blessing experience
This led me to a Mother’s Blessing Ceremony and Sherrilyn…
I learned about this meaningful tradition kept by the Native American tribes, like the Navajo, not so long ago. And it made so much sense! It felt so perfectly aligned to the energy of my own journey and what I wanted to create in this birth. A sacred spiritual space, in harmony with the Divine Design, aligned with the Divine Feminine energy, connected to all the women that came before me, the women that are with me on this journey and the women that will come after me.
My path crossed Sherrilyn in a series of synchronicities and it felt right to ask her to be part of this with me. It was so aligned that her enthusiasm and commitment surprised me! She was ready for this. How amazing it is that God through the Spirit, guided me to her and towards this path…
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am driven, strong minded, result oriented and I like to be in control! Well, let me tell you, the moment I decided to let go of control, surrender my will & my ways, and fully embrace the guidings of the Spirit, my intuition and the flow of the Universe, that’s when the real magic happened!
Nothing I could have planned better or controlled with a better outcome.
The Divine Design is always right in its timing and the way it unfolds perfectly. It always brings you exactly what you need, when you need it and how you need it.
So the lessons in this for me are to TRUST. ALLOW. Go with the FLOW.
And what a beautiful unfolding! The journey is everything!
So here we are on a Saturday morning, five beautiful women at different stages in life – mothers, wild woman, crone – all gathered in a circle around a magical altar of gifts & offerings created by Sherrilynn. Each detail of the altar was carefully chosen and we all added something to it.
The space and moment we created & shared together was magical, profound, intimate, transformative and spiritual.
I was so honoured and blessed to feel supported by such beautiful & amazing women.
Sherrilynn was the perfect MC for this very special women’s circle. She poured all her heart into this and went above & beyond my expectations.
Deena my doula (for the second time).
Kayla, a new found sister and relative, also married to a Geck, who was there with her 4 months old baby boy.
Kim, a soul sister & friend, navigating together the healing and motherhood journey – and also amazing photographer.
Magalie, Mag, Mamilie, Maman et Grand-mère de cœur, adopted in our hearts and as precious as blood relatives, who connected with us by phone.
Sherrilynn opened the ceremony with a round of introductions where she asked each one to share how they knew me, followed by a little energy talk and then a beautiful meditation. Coming out of the meditation, they each had a part to share what came up to them for me in that meditation. I couldn’t tell you, now, everything that was said but I can tell you that I felt it in my heart as a warm, comforting embrace. The one word that stood out to me and resonated through each of their voices was strength. They viewed me as a strong woman and mother, one that stands with courage and determination.
I was reminded to go within to find that strength, and that my power is within me. It is coming from the infinite divine source that is inside each one of us. I was also encouraged to draw that strength from the generations of mothers in my lineage. It was so powerful and resonated so deep inside of me.
We also discussed the journey we are on and how we found each other in a series of synchronicities. Our paths crossed because our souls were drawn to each other and we are now entangled.
Sherrilynn then crowned me with a flower crown that she made herself from baby’s breath, pink carnations (a January birth flower) and pink roses. I joked that I was being crowned “the Birthing Queen”. But I truly felt proud of that self proclaimed name! After 2 empowering home births, I feel strength and confidence to guide me through another powerful birthing experience.
We then passed a cord around the circle so each one of us could add a bead – that we selected and chose specifically for this – to make a bracelet, while giving it a little blessing.
Around the altar were laid in a circle a selection of oracle cards from a deck created by the BC artist Autumn Skye that Sherrilynn had carefully chosen. We each chose a card that spoke to us. We read it out loud and shared how it related to me. Each one shared a thought of support with me. It was so heartwarming and felt so caring & loving.
I got emotional once more and I shared how I was so thankful for the support I felt from each one of these beautiful women present with me, and how I could feel the other women in my life being there with me too. I was able to connect to all the women in my lineage. I could sense the touch of my mother, grandmothers, my sisters and ancestors as if they were holding me, a hand on my shoulder. They are all behind me supporting me. They’ve got my back! I felt held, loved, cared for and supported in a way that I had never felt before. And it was such a balm for my heart! Having immigrated from Europe a few years ago, doing this motherhood thing almost on my own, far from my close relatives…the journey has felt lonely at times and has had its challenges and ups & downs. Feeling supported is so important and it is something I had to recreate intentionally for myself. I shared how I have been looking for a village to do this motherhood adventure with and I feel like I have finally found one. It might be evolving and changing as we go but it is there!
We also did the red thread ritual which consists of tying a red cotton thread around our wrists 3 times to connect us all. The 3 strands represent the 3 blood vessels in the umbilical cord. Once baby is born, we each can “cut the cord” on our wrist as a symbol of completion of the birthing process. Until then, we all remain linked and connected through this supportive link.
Sherrilynn infused all throughout the ceremony some beautiful feminine, spiritual songs. We listened and sang along to the “Pacha Mama” song by Alexa Sunshine Rose. It felt so profound and touched my heart so much that I couldn’t hold my tears…
We also danced freely to the feminine flow of “Woman”, a song by Amber Lily.
It was time to close the circle and Sherri invited us to leave this sacred space we created together.
Sherri had prepared a band – one that she wore for her last homebirth – so that each of the 5 women gathered with me for the ceremony would imprint their hand on it with paint. I later added my two girls’ hand prints. I will wear the band for birth as a sign of their support. They will have their hands layed on me the whole time.
We finished our time together by sharing a delicious feast of homemade prepared food & tea. We chatted around the table and share more heart to heart moments.
It was then time to return home. They each left with a little candle to light whenever they will hear that I am going into labour so they can think of me, pray for me and send me love, blessings and good light energy.
My heart felt so full.
I felt surrounded and supported in a way that I had never felt before. Like a big, tight warm hug embracing all of me, just as I am.
I have found soul sisters and mothers that feel like home. I have found a tribe and they are part of my village.
Together we are weaving the tapestry of our stories. Knit together in love, connection, vulnerability, authenticity, honesty, joy & sorrow, tears & laughter, grief, gratitude, abundance…
We feel it all. We are here for it all.
I am so deeply grateful for the power of connection and support and for the magic that happens when women gather together and share with open hearts…
There were so many heartfelt connections, emotions, words…
I wasn’t sure this would be possible or could happen in time…it was truly meant to be and I am so grateful I got to experience this beautiful transformative moment with such amazing women.
It did so much for my heart…
Having moved from Europe by myself, leaving behind family & friends, navigating the motherhood journey has been challenging and has felt lonely at times…
As I am preparing for the birth of our 3rd baby, I feel I have finally found my village…
Support is a fundamental need for us women. It is a survival need. Without it we cannot thrive.
And I’ve learned it comes in many different ways…often most unexpected!
In this circle of women gathered to honour me as a mother and bless me with love and support, I felt held by not just the women present with me, but also all the women that came before me and will come after me…
I felt the support of my mother, my grandmothers and my great grandmothers and all our ancestors…they have my back!
I felt a strong connection to the Divine Feminine energy that longs to be fully embodied within each one of us, women.
Tears of joy, gratitude, love and surrender came surging through my body like waves washing away all fears, worries, doubt, sorrow & grief.
This is for all the birthing women.
I am doing this
For me.
For my daughters.
For my sisters, for my mother and grandmothers.
I am doing this for all the women. The ones that came before me, the ones that are here with me on this journey and the one that will come after me.
I feel connected to all of us.
We are women.
We are mothers & sisters.
We are the bringers of life.
The carers & nurturers.
The healers & cycle breakers.
The community builders.
We are Woman. We are paving the way…
My wish is for every Mother-to-be and Mama to be offered the same level of love & support that I felt during this magical, beautiful Mother’s Blessing Ceremony.
May all Mamas be blessed with the gift of a supportive village that has her needs and interests at heart. A tribe of wise, intuitive women who hold ancestral knowledge to guide her through this important rite of passage. A true life transformation. A rebirth.
May all women learn to trust the perfect Divine Design of Life and remember who they truly are.
May all mothers and women come together in peace, harmony and love to empower each other and raise the frequency of the Divine Feminine energy on our planet.
With Love & Light
Laura
